Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty

This is Daisy’s new favourite book and it’s very high up on Bobby’s list as well. It’s about a little boy who loves building crazy inventions (on one occasion using dirty nappies!) When his new teacher states she doesn’t like architecture, Iggy is rather upset, but soon proves how it is very important. It has fabulous illustrations and a brilliant rhyming text, which my two just adore.

It has led to lots of good conversations about what architecture is and how and why we build things. What the difference is between builders and architects and also what diapers are ha! I would say this would be good from quite an early age due to the rhythm. Bobby is mad on it as he loves all things construction and Daisy likes it due to the story. A fabulous book and a must read.

Pelle’s New Suit by Elsa Beskow

This is such a beautiful book by  ‘Sweden’s Beatrix Potter’ about a little boy called Pelle who has a lamb whose coat grows longer and longer, while Pelle’s Sunday suit grows shorter! Pelle shears the lamb, and the wool is carded, spun, dyed and woven. Finally, the tailor makes a new suit for Pelle. The illustrations are just beautiful and it has an educational content, showing children how a wool suit is made. My two really adore this book and again it leads to lots of conversations, which I always love. It really is a treasure of a book.
