For me rooms that look and feel overly stylised (sort of show roomy), with everything just so, end up not feeling that comfortable I find. I don’t know about you guys but when I walk into a space I want to feel immediately at ease and comfortable. If every thing is placed just so, or if everything is fighting for attention, for me at least, it reads as a little uptight.

Simple tricks to counteract that uncomfortable/uptight feeling is not having things in rows like paintings on a wall or accessories on a desk or mantle. Cluster, group, prop up, mix up that sort of thing. I also love to play around with scale, it honestly adds magic, but you don’t want everything supersized otherwise it will feel a little crazy.  Do it in all rooms too – it’s so vital. If your rooms are small don’t opt for small furniture, have one piece, maybe it’s a chair or extra large lamp that will just up the game in that room. Small furniture will make the room feel more small. If you’ve got a large space you can add a few larger pieces to your space and play around with that scale thing.

I also love to maximise a room with mirrors. Mirrors will reflect more light that will then make your space feel and look larger as they expand horizons and add depth and if you can super size your mirror especially if your space is large or your ceilings tall it will make the room feel far grander than it really is!

Hope these tips help.
