essential oils for the new year…

The new year is a time of new beginnings and fresh starts, many people are starting to think about how they can make better decisions and lead healthier lives. From losing weight to reducing stress to creating a greener home, essential oils are a great addition to your new regime.

The best essential oils to diffuse in the New Year are the ones that’ll boost your spirits for all the excitement to come. And if these oils can help you relax or possibly benefit your health in the meantime, all the better.

If you’re new to diffusing essential oils, (this is the diffuse I have and love) the most important thing to remember is that a little oil goes a long way. A few drops and your home will be filled with a lovely scent that could potentially help you feel better when you’re struck with the winter blues. Who could say no to that?

Here are my favorites to get you started:

Peppermint

When I’m feeling sluggish or having problems concentrating and want a natural way to feel more alert, I diffuse peppermint essential oil. It is believed to stimulate circulation, reduce feelings of nervous tension, soothe feelings of irritability, boost energy, balance hormones, and enhance mental focus.

Lavender

Whether your resolution is stress relief or a better night’s sleep, lavender essential oil can help. Lavender has long been known for it’s calming properties. You can diffuse it in the air to help with overall stress relief.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Diffusing a sweet orange essential oil is said to boost mood and increase feelings of positivity. This has to be my favourite scent I think.

Eucalyptus

If you try to avoid traditional medicine when you get sick, try diffusing eucalyptus essential oil to reduce congestion. You can add it to your diffuser or put a few drops in your next warm bath for a relaxing natural remedy.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Feel the need to liven up your home a bit? Tea tree oil can help freshen the air in your house naturally, without being too overwhelming.

Lemongrass Essential Oil

If you’ve been feeling low on energy lately, lemongrass essential oil may help you put a little more spring in your step. This oil has often been lauded for its invigorating properties.

Frankincense essential oil

When stress gets the better of you, take a time-out with frankincense essential oil. The aroma is very powerful and has been used to promote relaxation for ages. It combats negative emotions and lifts the spirits while balancing mood.

Ylang Ylang

Last but not least! I love to use it around this time of year. It is well known for its ability to cool down states of tension and agitation, a definite go-to for our household with two busy kids.

Any of the oils mentioned can be used individually or in the blends suggested below in a diffuser, just a few drops added to the water will suffice.
