 Bamboo Toothbrushes

As you know from this post (swapping plastic bags for a more ethical option), I have taken on the challenge of making our family go as plastic free as possible. The next thing I have banished is the plastic toothbrushes from our bathroom, (every year more than 50 MILLION pounds of toothbrushes are disposed of into landfills in the United States alone.) I  have switched to a more environmentally friendly bamboo option. Bamboo is a 100% biodegradable and is the worlds fastest naturally renewing resource which has inherent anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

I went for the f.e.t.e. toothbrushes, (the acronym “f.e.t.e.” stands for: “from earth to earth.”) as I liked their background and how simple yet classic the brush designs were. They are a couple, from England, with young children  who wanted to save this planet of ours. I chose the family pack of four as I liked that each of us would have our own colour, but there are single toothbrushes available.

Most dental professionals agree that a soft-bristled brush is best for removing plaque and debris from your teeth and along the gum line. Depending on how vigorously you brush your teeth and the strength of your teeth, medium- and hard-bristled brushes could actually damage the gums, root surface, and protective tooth enamel.

I have to say we all absolutely love using them, is that a really geeky think to admit? Even the kids, they are totally fascinated by ‘doing their bit’ for this earth and we are thoroughly impressed with how clean they get our teeth. The soft bristles are perfect and don’t feel too soft, even the packaging is well designed.

Please switch and go BPA free.
