A red lip…

A red lip

With Valentine’s just around the corner I thought I’d talk about a red lip. I love a red lip, and yes I love it with a black dress or a smart going out outfit, but when I truly think it looks fabulous is when you are dressed in your jeans, grey sweater, casual, with natural make-up and a beautiful red lip. It just looks so amazing. In this post I thought we’d go through the different reds that I love and have been wearing.

There are supposedly rules to wearing red lips. Warm orange toned reds work better on yellow based skin tones (olive skin). Whilst cool toned reds can look better with a pale skin. I think this is true to a point but some cool toned reds look fabulous with olive skin, They make the teeth seem whiter and the colour ‘pop’ and vice versa. You also have to consider what the colour of your skin is when you have your foundation on, as you may have covered up the redness and given your skin some warmth.

Here are some of my favourite reds (I have quite a few!)

Warm Orange Toned Reds:

Mac Lady Danger lipstick: This has a matte texture so is long lasting. I wear this a lot, I love it. It’s a classic.

Georgio Armani Rouge d’Armni Lipstick-401: This is a vibrant orangey red and looks amazing on blondes as well as brunettes, but really good on a blonde! It has a matte finish.

Chanel Rouge Allure Incandescent 97: This has a beautiful shiny finish to it unlike the matt ones above. It is an orangey fiery red. Perfect for olive skin. I couldn’t find a link to this on-line but it should be in-store.

Cool Tone Reds

Cool tone reds are supposedly for pale skin, however I think they can look good with olive skin for a wow factor. These next lipsticks I think work on both.

Tom Ford Cherry Lush: This really does make teeth appear white and bright. A beautiful classy red, expensive but worth the treat.

Lancome L’absolu Rouge-Rubis Exquis 182: This is a blueish pinky red and looks good on all skin tones.  I like the texture and the ‘pop’ it gives my face.

Maybelline Non stop red 510-Super stay 14hr Lipstick: This is the pinkest of them all and at the moment it’s my favourite. I’ve been wearing it a lot. It’s the longest lasting and it gives the sallowness of yellow/olive skin the brightness it needs.

Maybelline also do this one which is more of a neutral version. It’s very bright and intense.

Neutral Reds:

These go with all skin tones.

Mac Lipstick Ruby Woo: I think this suits so many people. It’s fabulous on dark skin but in my opinion just as beautiful on pale skin. It’s very matte.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Colour Fatel Red 530: This has a creamy shiny finish and is a lovely colour.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Fine and Ice: This has been around years, it’s a neon red, very bright and seems to change on all different skin tones so that’s probably why it’s been around for so long! So good and suits everyone. I love it!

Dark Reds:

Dark skin tones.

Nars Red Lizard: This is a semi matte lipstick. It’s rich and looks gorgeous. I wear this a lot!

Mac Lipstick Russion Red: This again is a classic and looks good on both dark and fair skin.

Revlon Matte Lipstick Really Red 006: Beautiful rich red, again good on fair and dark skin. This is very bright and makes lips ‘pop’. I love these Revlon lipsticks.

Finally a sheer texture red lip. These are more lightweight and you can see more of your skin texture with them. I like the No 7 Sheer Temptations-Glam: This is a beautiful Pinkish red, works on all skin tones and is more lightweight than all the previous reds.

Phew, I’m done.
